About Me

Much of what I create has grown quietly out of home life and the rhythms of caring for others, shaped over time by family, routine, and the slow accumulation of small daily choices. Becoming a mother, and building a life alongside my husband, deepened my awareness of how closely health, nourishment, and care are woven into the everyday, often in ways that don’t announce themselves at all.

My interest in herbalism and natural remedies began long before I had the language for it, formed through growing up between two very different households. My mother lived a deeply health-conscious, plant-based lifestyle, while my father ran a farm, growing food, keeping animals, and living with a strong sense of self-sufficiency. Though these ways of living might appear to sit at opposite ends of a spectrum, the common thread between them was always plants, and I grew up with an instinctive understanding of their importance simply by being surrounded by them.

Over time, this familiarity became something I wanted to understand more deeply, leading me to study herbalism and become certified, initially creating remedies for myself and for my family. What began as personal practice gradually shifted as my attention moved towards apothecary-style preparations for the body and home, and as I became more aware of how often modern formulations were rushed to market, relying on solvent-based extractions and speed rather than patience and careful tending. Many of the slower, traditional methods that once allowed plants to infuse gently over time are becoming less common, replaced by processes designed for efficiency rather than relationship.

I found myself drawn instead to slower methods, to infusion guided by hand and time, and to the kind of work that respects the delicacy of plants rather than trying to control them.

The Modern Materia Apothecary grew from this way of thinking and remains intentionally small, family-run, and rooted in slow, considered formulation. There is, for me, a quiet and almost spiritual connection in working with plants from the ground up, learning their rhythms and allowing them the time they require, a way of creating that naturally carries into the home and into the everyday rituals of care.
